Popping the Question - Sushi - and Vomit?

Dave and I have been living together, or living in sin as my aunt likes to call it (kidding of course) for a while now. You'd think that being in close quarters you would know when something is up...you know...like that your boyfriend was planning to propose or that he drove 2 hours up to ask for your parents permission. I guess my female intuition isn't as sharp as I thought because I literally had no idea. Like, zero. Not that I didn't think it would happen, I just didn't think it would happen when it did.

So on a balmy night in April, Davey suggested we go to robongi, our favorite sushi place, for dinner. Normal. So we get there and we grab a bottle of white wine, because it's BYOB and sit down outside. Normal. Order our food. Normal. Then I notice that Dave looks like he's either seen the lochness monster or he's about to vomit on the table. He was PALE. I asked if he was okay... and he said yeah and snapped out of it and we talked and had a regular dinner etc. So then we started to walk towards home but were passing by Whiskey Bar on the way home, which is where we met but also where we always went for drinks... so as we're walking he says, hey wanna go to WB for a digestion drink?? Normal. So I'm like sure! So we go in... order one drink and then Dave asks if I want to head outside, where PJ, who was the manager of the bar and a friend was smoking a cigarette. I guess Dave figured once he was done he would go inside, but he didn't... he just kept talking and talking and he finally went in so I figured we would too but then Dave put his fat wrists around me from behind... (fat wrists is a joke, not mean!) and started saying how much he loved me blah blah which I also thought was normal because he's just sweet like that all the time!!! So I was like aww I love you too and then like, in a flash he was in font of me and really whatever he said after that is totally mush in my head because all I was thinking was omg. omg. omg. not normal that he's like 3 feet shorter then me all the sudden. I didn't have heels on!!! So he popped the big question and I was shocked and kept asking if he was kidding and started crying right off the bat obviously saying yes...after I realized it was for real and I prob shouldn't keep him on the ground this long..oops. haha. Soooo HOORAYYYY!!! Next thing I know there are like 5 heads peeking around the corner (bartenders and bouncers of WB) and everyones like yayyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!! And then the bouncer tells us that he thought Dave was puking because he was confused to why he was kneeling on the ground hahahaha. Ahhh man what a fun night. I couldnt stop crying which is weird because I didn't think I was one of those engagement criers... apparently I am. Best night everrrrrrrrrr. Our cats were happy. And then we put it up on facebook when we got home. Haha. The End.

Oh wait no not the end. Apparently - Dave drove up a few weeks before to talk to my parents which I never knew!!!! And no one in my family wanted to take my calls because they were scared of spilling the beans. I call home like... A lot... so my feelings were hurt haha. I guess it was for the best. Mom- you have a big mouth. xo!

The Beginning...

Where to start... ahmmm well I guess I should start with my friend Molly Z! I met Molly at work in 2007 in NYC. At the time, Molly lived in Hoboken and we ended up becoming friends. For Molly's b-day, or around then, she was going to Whiskey bar to see some friends of hers play at Whiskey Bar. Marta and I decided to stop in and say hi, but left pretty quickly for one reason or another. This, I suppose, was my first encounter with Spit Roast Muppet. It was uneventful - I didn't actually meet any of the guys in the band...however on Cinco de Mayo Mart and I went back to Whiskey to see them again and hang out with Molly. There are a few reasons I remember this night pretty vividly... one because Marta and I had some coronas dressed in "beer ponchos" which we thought was so cute and still talk about to this day... second, because I really liked the cordory military style jacket I was wearing that my Mom had bought me from Jasmine Sola, which is now out of business :( anyway the real reason this night was special is that is the first time I "met" David! I put that in quotes because we didn't actually meet that night but we did see one another. Who wouldn't notice the lead singer!!??!? He had this amazing talent and charm that it made it really hard not to kind of just stare at him the whole time. Sooo anyway - we were standing in the front with Molly and part of the way through the night, my friends wanted to head to the front of the bar (they play at the back for those of you who haven't been there). I was still kind of captivated by him so I guess I was still staring at him while I walked away. That night he ended up talking to Marta and not ME! But I really didn't give it a second thought, you know how those lead singers are... reputation wise at least. We had a great night and that next Monday at work, Molly came over to tell me that Dave had been asking about me! My thoughts at the time went something like psh whatev. he didn't even speak to me. Not to mention he asked her who that "blond" girl was that she was with. Sorry pal, but I am NOT a blond. I mean... I guess I was at the time but I didn't want to admit it. SO regardless I was flattered and I allowed her to tell him my name etc. and he ended up sending me a msg. via My Space. Yeah, I know super classy :) So he said something like Hey Blondie, and then soemthing about going to La Guardia Airport and Vegas and I guess I didn't really get what he was saying and so I responded with Hey Band Guy, isn't AC closer? So thats where it all started and we ended up meeting up after that one night at Hobsons, a bar in town... but that didn't go so well... I mean he was nice and sweet but I thought he was a little weird and I think I was kind of guarded still at the time. Buttt then a few weeks later, I missed him and ended up sending him a text. Molly, Marta and I made plans to go to his next show at Whiskey Bar... I was super nervous/excited to see him again... I bought him a drink when we got there...not really sure WHY since he gets his drinks for free...haha but I guess it just made sense in my head and seemed like a nice gesture...but basically we haven't been apart since. We went on our first real date that next week - he took me to dinner - and being the smooth girl that I am I some how managed to actually buckle my seatbelt through my necklace and got stuck. (YES MOM I WORE MY SEAT BELT) I really don't know HOW it happened to this day. I literally had to unclip the necklace to get myself out. It was an AWESOME date, no weirdness no awkward silences... I went home and wrote to Marta about how great it was. And then I went and met him down at his Jersey Shore house that weekend and voila!!! We started offically dating! So that was almost three years ago. That is how the magic happened.

Side note on all of this - Dave had this beautiful picture made by his friend Casey of what he saw from the stage on cinco de mayo. I will have to take a picture of the picture and post it for you to see. It was the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me in my life. I lovvvveeee it. It's currently the first thing you see when you walk into our apartment...

Also if you ever get the chance to see the band Dave is in, Spit Roast Muppet, you should... they are AMAZING.

Daddy Pop - One and Done!

Like many of the things we've checked off our wedding to-do list the band was a piece of cheeseburger (thats what I'm craving right now, Five Guys). We went to Whiskey bar to check them out on David Albert's suggestion and they hit me with a ton of delish. musical bricks. The band is quite large... I believe there are 3 singers. One is a lady and one is a man and another one raps! Anyone that knows me well enough, knows that I can't resist a good rhyme spitter. They played everything! It was awesome. I have a feeling people are going to be shaking their little booties right off. No one will be in their chairs when Daddy Pop hits the scene. As a little transition into singing the praises of musicians, I suppose I should do so for the musician in my life. We should all be getting a musical treat from Mr. David DeVoe himself and (I hope) a treat from SRM (the band he is/was?? in) who knows with those guys. They are trickyyy!!!

Here is Daddy Pop

And here Davealicious and the rest of SRM! He's the one with the big head and a shaded eye...

Okay maybe THIS is the hardest part...

Honeymoon? Seriously can someone just figure it out for me? I am sick of trying to figure it out. It's like planning another wedding. Fiji? Hawaii? St. Lucia!? First we were "for sure" going to Hawaii then we were "For Sure" going to Fiji and NOW I think we're FOR SURE going to like Hoboken Pier....

Ugh here is a picture of a schnoodle.

Adding a little SPICE to the mix

We have tried to add a bit of a unique flava to our nups... so I'd like to share a few things you can expect to see that day. To my friends/fam who are reading this pls take tons of pics!!!

Okay so first, our amazing florist is creating a throw away bouqet in the shape of a Jets Football. Yes. I will be making the single ladies go deep. You have to work for it!!!

Second, I've decided instead of a prissy pillow for our giant ring bearer... we're going a little more masculine with some deer antlers. Add a little rustic touch. I may or may not have things put under guests chairs to throw at him as he walks down to pay homage to my Dad's made up game of "The Deer Hunter" in which my brother, sister and I would have to put our hands on our head like antlers and try to run from one end of the room to the other without being pelted with balled up socks. Thanks Dad!!!

Flower girl in converse! So cute! Purple to match the maids!

Our invites are quite different then the norm. I will have to wait to post a pic of them as I honestly don't feel like explaining them. They will speak for themselves. But I must give a HUGE thanks to Mimi for doing an amazing amazing job on our save the dates. She is also doing our invites so I can't wait to see them/send them out. I know you'll all fall deeply and madly in love with her work. She is SO talented!!!!!!! I have no words to describe it!

There may be more coming... I will literally keep you posted.
